Puppy Food You should start your puppy out with the food that they have been eating. A quick change in his diet can cause problems. If you will be changing his food, do so slowly by mixing the new food with the old food adding more new food every few days until you use all new food.

Dog Food and Water Bowls - Metal or Ceramic Dog Bowls work better than plastic bowls due to the weight. Plastic bowls tend to slip around and spill.

Dog Grooming Equipment - You will need a dog brush (style depends on the length of coat), nail clippers and nail file, quick blood stop powder (in case you get too close) and dog shampoo.

Dog Leash  - Something sturdy that can grow with your dog but not too heavy. You might need different lenghths for obedience training.

Dog Collar  - You will have many choices here. You will want to find something that won't harm a young pup. Many owners choose a body harness to prevent pulling and choking. If you do choose a collar for his neck, make sure to check it often as your puppy will be growing quickly and you won't want it to get too tight.

Dog Toys - Puppies love to play. Try to find safe toys that can't be broken and swallowed. Rope toys are not suggested for young puppies, it can lead to biting clothing or draperies. You can learn more about what kind of toys are appropriate through our training links.

Dog Treats - Crunchy nutritious treats are healthy for your dog and can help to keep his teeth clean. Rawhides are not recommended for dogs under 6 months of age.

Dog Crate - A crate should be big enough for your puppy to grow but not so big that he will feel comfortable going potty and still have room to sleep. If you have a large breed that will grow a lot, you should divide the cage while he is young.
